Celebration of Czech Festivity Called Dusicky

We’d like to invite you to our celebration of a typical Czech festivity called Dusicky. It has something to do with Halloween, but still it differs. It’s not much connected with dressing up and carving the pumpkin. Dusicky meaning ‘souls‘ can tell us what it really is about: contemplation and rememberance of the deceased.

It will serve us as a good occasion for visiting Vysehrad, the other castle in Prague, once seat of the kings, with its lovely park, church, walls and unusual view of Prague. The whole area of Vysehrad dates back to times of old Czech myths and legends.

First we will walk around a bit, being amused by speech about Vysehrad, then we will descend down into basements underneath the fortification walls. As it gets dark, we’ll finish at Slavín graveyard, crucial place of our nation, because the most remarkable men and women of Czech history and art find the last rest there. The graveyard’s architecture and ornamentation are very spectacular. I find this event quite autumn with touch of gothic atmosphere!

Afterwards we will go somewhere warm and cosy.

Meeting on Sunday, 2nd November at 3pm at Vysehrad station (metro line C). Please have some money ready for the entrance to the basements.
